No Smartphone or Laptop? No Worries! Facebook-owned Oculus is planning to release a new $200 (N63,000) VR headset that can operate without smartphones or PCs.

According to Bloomberg, the new headset will be aimed toward watching videos, social networking and immersive gaming. The new device code-named ‘Pacific’ will be lighter than Samsung’s Gear VR headset and will appear like a compact version of Oculus Rift headsets.
Earlier in the year, Google announced at its developer conference (Google I/O) that it is developing a headset reference design in partnership with Qualcomm for its Daydream VR platform. Clay Bavor, Vice President of Virtual and Augmented Reality at Google confirmed that the Daydream VR platform will soon support standalone devices by HTC VIVE and Lenovo. The new range of devices supported by this design will use a tracking technology called “WordSense” . It will enable the headset to track its user in space.
Virtual Reality is a computer technology that uses virtual reality headsets, sometimes in combination with physical spaces or multi-projected environment, to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations that stimulate a user’s physical presence in an imaginary or virtual environment (Wikipedia).
