Mercedes’ Maybach 6 Cabriolet is a delightfully-exotic, polished and extravagantly finished concept car that was unveiled over the weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as part of 2017 Monterrey Car Week in California. Described as a “perfect embodiment of the design philosophy of Sensual Purity,” the Vision Mercedes – Maybach 6 Cabriolet is a dazzling super-coupe with drop-top roof.
It was designed as an electric car, the drive system has an output of 550kW (750hp) with a range of over 200 miles. Measuring just under 6 metres long and 2 metres wide, it is bigger than most everyday cars. Yet there is room for only two seats.
Mercedes said the 750hp drive system is made up of four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that delivers a performance that is typical of a sport car. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/hr in just 4 seconds. The car also comes with a quick charge function that delivers a range of 100 km in just 5 minutes.
George Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG said the car takes “modern luxury into the realms of ultimate luxury.” The interior features a crystal white Nappa leather that is crafted in the same way as high-end Chesterfield furniture, while the open-pore wood floor with inlaid aluminium gives the lounge sensation that underscores the car’s yachting inspiration.
The dashboard lacks buttons to operate the radio or adjust other settings within the vehicle – that is because most of the car’s features have been programmed to respond to a Concierge voice control system. To enable full concentration on driving, Mercedes say the Concierge function was designed to talk freely and naturally without using any predefined voice command.
The most exciting part of this truly astonishing car is in the bonnet. It is a double-hinged bonnet that lifts up like a wing to reveal a decked storage unit for keeping various items like dinner plates, umbrellas, luggage set and so on.
Being a concept car, it is highly unlikely that the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet will ever go on sale.
