Samsung is working with the US military to develop 5G mobile network

Samsung has commenced a series of developmental tests in partnership with the US military services to build a high bandwidth 5G wireless network.

According to Defense Systems, Samsung is now conducting trials using its pre-commercial 28GHz mm wave system. And if successful, the 5G technology will enable data transfer speed of up to 1 gigabyte per second (1 GB/s) – that’s fast enough to download an HD movie in a matter of seconds and is more than twice the speed you’ll get with an advanced 4G connection.

The developers of the system also said the technology is very secure.

The Former US Department of Defence Chief Information Officer, Terry Halvorsen told Defense Systems in an interview that: “This brings extremely high speed and low latency. You can use higher encryption without compromising connection speed.”

The technology is expected to become available ahead of 2020 Olympics in Tokyo
